Closing MOLM and heading over to BASEBALL

Thanks to everyone who came out to see Man of La Mancha at Bloomington Civic Theatre.
We had a great run and nearly sold-out houses. (a little snow storm got in our way). Pictures coming soon!

Next up, we head to the baseball field... sort of. Here's a bit about the show.

BASEBALL SAVED US
MARCH 13-APRIL 4

Mixed Blood Theatre presents a Stages Theatre-Mu Performing Arts collaboration. During World War II, Japanese-Americans were unjustly interned at camps inside the continental U.S. This new work tells the story of how one boy and his family dealt with their captivity through the use of the great American pastime.

Adapated for the stage by Katie Hae Ryun Leo
By arrangement with Lee & Low Books

Baseball Saved Us is directed by Sandy Boren Barrett and Rick Shiomi.
The cast included some of the areas best local youth talent alongside professional adult actors. I'm very excited about this one and feel blessed to be participating.

It's been interesting rehearsing this one while performing Man of La Mancha at the same time. In MOLM I played a prisoner of the spanish inquisition and in Basball Saved Us, I play a Guard of a Japanese internment camp. This time I'm on the other side. But it's interesting how similar the roles seem to be in certain respects. The playing fields (no pun intended) are quite differant and create the oppisate effect of what most people assume would be associated with either. As the actor playing a prisoner, there was freedom within MOLM's prison, whereas the actor in BSU is restricted to one single confining area.

Growing up at Stages and having a heavy dose of theatre base from them, it's wonderful to go back and re-examine where I came from, how things have changed, how things have remained the same and how incredibly important Stages Theatre Company is to youth in this community who are interested in theatre. The work that these people do and the foundation of theatre that they provide for kids is quite special and should be supported. In these hard times, we can't lose orginizations like this. If nothing else, come see a Stages production (namely BASEBALL SAVED US), buy a season subscription. You won't be disappointed!

Sorry, got a little off track there. Anyway... Come see Baseball Saved Us.
